Pedro Goncalves Cautions Against Overestimating Angola’s Progress Despite Wins Over Ghana and Sudan

Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has urged for cautious optimism despite leading the Black Sable Antelopes to an impressive start in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Following Angola’s 1-0 victory against Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium and a 2-1 win over Sudan in Luanda, Goncalves emphasized that while the team is in a strong position to qualify for the tournament in Morocco, they are not yet at the pinnacle of African football.

In an interview with azscore, Goncalves expressed satisfaction with the victories but cautioned against unrealistic expectations, stating, “We have much to develop, and we are not yet at the pinnacle of African football…not in terms of sporting prowess, logistics, or operations.”

Angola, currently well-positioned in the qualifiers, will face Niger on October 7, with a win likely securing their place at the 2025 AFCON.
