National athletes Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, Cynthia Mensah, and Nasaara Quansah, who represent Ghana in Track & Field, are among 32 individuals and organizations set to be honored at the 10th Women In Sports Association (WISA) Achievers Awards. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Gold medalist Perpetual Naa Ayikailey Okaijah, who excelled in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at the 13th African Games, is also among the awardees. Other notable honorees include handball player Vida Baffowaa, hockey stars Lawrentia Okine and Hagar Laryea, and international fencer Kelsey Woname.
Four female journalists—Aniela Allotey (TV3), Doreen Lamptey (Obonu TV and GTV Sports), Naa Deide Sampah, and Awurabena Adzi (HSTV)—along with male media figures Sammy Heywood Okine (GOC), Prince Annang (Max TV), Theophilus Sampah (GTV), and John Phil Quartey (Metro TV) will be recognized for their contributions to women’s sports.
Supporters Rashida Iddi and Abigail Twumasiwaa Okantah, as well as distinguished figures such as Mrs. Patience Baffoe Bonnie and Captain Andy Sam, are also on the list of honorees.
Event organizer Madam Gloria Commodore noted that due to a lack of corporate sponsorship, this might be the final edition of the awards unless a company steps in to support future events.
