Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi made a triumphant return to the professional boxing scene with a convincing fourth-round stoppage of Emmanuel Noi Mensah in Dansoman. After his win, the 23-year-old expressed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of Ghana’s boxing legends, such as D.K. Poison and Azumah Nelson, by becoming the country’s 11th world champion.
Takyi, who made history at the Tokyo Olympics by winning Ghana’s first Olympic medal in 29 years, initially turned professional in 2022 under the mentorship of former world champion Ike Bazooka Quartey. After starting his pro career with a perfect 3-0 record, he paused his professional journey to pursue Olympic gold with the Black Bombers in Paris 2024. However, after a brief amateur comeback, he shifted focus back to his pro career, signing with UK-based Streetwise Management in May 2024.
Following his latest win, Takyi confidently declared his readiness to compete at the highest level, promising to bring another world title to Ghana. Reuniting with Coach Kwasi Ofori Asare, Takyi also paid tribute to his fans and pledged to use his victories to unite Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation.
“No boxing, no life for Samuel Takyi. I will be Ghana’s 11th world champion, it’s a promise,” Takyi affirmed, as he continues his quest to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
