Black Queens Coach Nora Hauptle Intensifies European Scouting Ahead of WAFCON 2025

Black Queens head coach, Nora Hauptle, has ramped up her scouting efforts across Europe as she prepares the Ghanaian national team for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. After leading the Black Queens to their first WAFCON qualification since 2018, Hauptle has been touring Europe, assessing potential players to strengthen the squad.

Over the weekend, the Swiss tactician was in France to observe Mia Irene Gyau, granddaughter of former Black Stars player George Gyau, in a French Arkema Premiere League match between Reims and Nantes. Hauptle is aiming to persuade the promising talent to represent Ghana.

Additionally, she scouted Josephine Bonsu, who plays for Carl Zeiss Jena in the German Women’s Bundesliga, and Princess Owusu of Turkish club Ünye Kadin FK.

This strategic scouting initiative is part of Hauptle’s plan to build a competitive team for WAFCON 2025, which has been rescheduled to next year due to organizational delays. Ghana’s Black Queens last participated in the tournament on home soil in 2018 but did not advance past the first round.
