Ghana’s national youth boxing team, the Black Rockets, departed Accra on Saturday night for Montenegro to participate in the upcoming IBA World Youth Championship. Led by the Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Alhaji Dauda Fuseni, and head coach Charles Quartey, the team is seen as the future of Ghanaian boxing.
Augustus Dodoo, also known as “One Life,” an organizer with the Ghana United Boxing Coaches Association, praised the young athletes, stating that they are highly motivated to win for their families and country. The team, which includes Francis Quartey, Desmond Pappoe, Levy Ankrah, Ebenezer Ankrah, Mathias Ashitey, and George Dowuona, are making their international debut.
Dodoo emphasized the importance of this tournament, noting that the boxers have been preparing for over a year and expressed gratitude to Vice President Dauda Fuseni for making the trip possible. GBF’s second vice president, Solomon Otoo, added that the experience will provide invaluable exposure for the athletes and urged the government to support future trips.
The Black Rockets, aged between 16 and 18, have been training at the Charles Quartey Foundation Boxing Gym and are determined to make Ghana proud on the global stage.
