Ghana’s national youth boxing team, the Black Rockets, have been invited to compete in the IBA Youth World International Tournament in Budva, Montenegro, and are scheduled to depart from Accra on October 18, 2024. The team, led by Alhaji Fuseni Dauda, Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), has been preparing under Coach Charles Quartey and aims to elevate Ghana’s presence in international boxing.
Alhaji Dauda highlighted the importance of this competition for young athletes, emphasizing that they need to be tested, exposed, and gain valuable experience on the world stage. He also called for government support, noting that while the six boxers are highly motivated, they require assurance and backing to perform at their best.
Coach Charles Quartey stated that the Black Rockets are being groomed for future Olympic Games and deserve encouragement from all quarters, especially the government. Meanwhile, GBF Treasurer Mustapha Nettey expressed gratitude for a recent donation by BOXUP, led by Dr. Stephen Addison, which has boosted the team’s morale.
The IBA Youth World Tournament will run from October 20 to November 3, 2024, and the Black Rockets are poised to make their mark.
