The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the green light for the Accra Sports Stadium to host the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Matchday 3 qualifier between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for Friday, October 11, 2024.
In a letter to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), CAF confirmed that after an independent inspection of both the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, the Accra Sports Stadium was approved for the upcoming match. The GFA and stadium management have been advised to prioritize necessary upgrades to the pitch and key areas of the stadium to ensure a smooth experience for both players and spectators.
CAF’s decision follows the ban of the Baba Yara Stadium, the only previously approved venue for Black Stars matches, for failing to meet required standards. This has prompted Ghana to find an alternative venue for the critical AFCON qualifier. CAF will continue to monitor the stadium’s preparedness for the game and other future events.
