The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has sanctioned the Libya Football Federation (LFF), awarding Nigeria a 3-0 forfeit victory in their 2025 AFCON qualifying match. The decision came after Nigerian players and officials were left stranded at Al Abraq Airport in Libya due to inadequate logistical support from Libyan authorities.

The CAF Disciplinary Board, chaired by Ousmane Kane, found the LFF in violation of Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, leading to the forfeiture ruling. CAF’s investigation confirmed Libya’s failure to ensure security and proper transport arrangements for Nigeria’s team. Consequently, the match, originally scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi, was awarded as a 3-0 victory to Nigeria, granting the Super Eagles three crucial points toward AFCON 2025 qualification.

Libya, now at the bottom of the group with one point, is out of the qualification race, while Nigeria, with 10 points, holds a significant lead. Additionally, the LFF faces a $50,000 fine, payable within 60 days. The ruling has sparked relief within Nigerian football circles, with calls for strict adherence to CAF regulations across the competition.
