CAF Confirms 2024 African Player of the Year Ceremony as Lookman and Boniface Pursue Osimhen’s Crown

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that the 2024 African Player of the Year Awards will be held on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco. This will be the third consecutive year that the historic city hosts the prestigious event, following last year’s successful edition.

CAF revealed the news via its social media platforms, posting, “It’s this time of the year again. #CAFAwards2024. December 16. Marrakech, Morocco. Mark your calendars.”

The annual CAF Awards celebrate remarkable achievements by African players and teams in both club and international competitions, with the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year awards being the highlight of the ceremony.

Victor Osimhen, the current holder of the men’s award, earned his first title last year after a standout season with Napoli. However, his chances of retaining the crown are slim after a quieter 2023/24 season with Napoli and the Nigerian national team.

Ademola Lookman, another Nigerian forward, has emerged as a top contender for the 2024 title. Lookman shined for Atalanta and the Super Eagles, playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final and leading Atalanta to a historic Europa League victory.

Victor Boniface is also in the running, thanks to his outstanding form for Bayer Leverkusen, where he guided the club to their first-ever league and cup double. Other notable contenders include Morocco’s Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz and Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy.

Alongside the Men’s Player of the Year, other categories will honor the Youth Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
