Five-time champions Cameroon and 2019 winners Algeria have qualified for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after winning their latest qualifiers. Cameroon edged Kenya 1-0 in Kampala, while Algeria triumphed over Togo 1-0 in Lome with a penalty from Ramy Bensebaini. This brings the number of confirmed AFCON teams to four, alongside hosts Morocco and Burkina Faso.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s fixture against Libya is shrouded in uncertainty after the Super Eagles boycotted the match due to logistical challenges. The Nigerian team was diverted 220km from the Benghazi venue and stranded overnight without access to basic necessities. Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong announced the team’s decision not to play, citing unsafe conditions. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has promised an investigation into the incident.
