Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has outlined his team’s approach as they prepare for their second group match at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. After a commanding 4-1 victory against New Zealand in their opening game, Olowookere emphasized the importance of taking each match one at a time as they now set their sights on Ecuador.
“Our strategy is to focus solely on the next match. Ecuador, though debutants, cannot be underestimated, as they’ve already shown by defeating the host nation,” Olowookere said.
The Flamingos’ early dominance in the tournament, marked by goals from Shakirat Moshood, Taiwo Adegoke, Fareedat Abdulwaheeb, and captain Taiwo Afolabi, has heightened expectations. However, Olowookere remains cautious, recognizing the threat Ecuador poses after their impressive 2-0 win over the Dominican Republic.
With another win, Nigeria could secure a spot in the knockout stages. The Flamingos face Ecuador on Saturday, October 19.
