Genk’s Tolu Arokodare Hails Ghanaian Teammate Bonsu Baah in Thrilling Win Over Gent

Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare shared his pride and admiration for Ghanaian winger Christopher Bonsu Baah following their key roles in KRC Genk’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over KAA Gent on Sunday. Arokodare’s decisive goal, assisted by the 19-year-old Bonsu Baah, helped Genk solidify their lead in Belgium’s First Division A.

The tightly contested first half saw both teams battling for control, but just a minute into the second half, Arokodare broke the deadlock. He connected with a perfect cross from Bonsu Baah, netting his eighth goal in as many games and reclaiming his spot atop the league’s scoring charts.

After the game, Arokodare expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I’m standing here with a super proud feeling. We took control of the game from the first minute, and Gent was forced to retreat.” He revealed that Genk had focused on taking an early second-half lead, a strategy that paid off thanks to Bonsu Baah’s precise pass.

Comparing this goal to his recent strike against STVV, Arokodare noted the importance of the wingers, Bonsu Baah and Jarne Steuckers, for their quality assists, adding, “It’s good for strikers like me that we have wingers like Bonsu and Jarne. They’re both very talented and often drop the ball in the box.”

Genk’s manager, Thorsten Fink, praised his team’s performance, calling it “perhaps our best game of the season.” Fink highlighted Genk’s dominance and defensive progress, looking forward to the Croky Cup match against Beveren as a chance to build on this momentum. He stressed the significance of the Cup as a fast route to European competition.

With a strong start to the season—nine wins and a draw in their first 12 league matches—Genk leads the standings with 28 points, five points ahead of Royal Antwerp.
