Ghana’s difficulties in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign continued as they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10. The Black Stars struggled to convert numerous chances on a poor playing surface, leaving them winless at the halfway point of the qualification process.
In Group F, Ghana remains in third place with two points, two behind the Falcons of Jediane and four adrift of leaders Angola, who are set to face Niger on Friday, October 11.
Hoping for improved results after a 1-1 draw with Niger on September 9, Ghana started brightly, with Alexander Djiku hitting the crossbar with a header from Mohammed Kudus’ cross in the fifth minute. Ernest Nuamah then fired just wide of the goal in the 11th minute after a brilliant pass from Kudus, and Antoine Semenyo tested Sudan’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Al Mustafa, after a strong run into the box in the 17th minute.
Despite Ghana’s pressure, the visitors defended resolutely to maintain the scoreline at 0-0 at halftime. The Black Stars continued to push for a breakthrough in the second half. Semenyo missed a chance to control Alidu Seidu’s cross in the 56th minute, and Kudus forced a smart save from Al Mustafa shortly after.
Sudan’s best opportunity came in the 72nd minute when they earned a free-kick from 30 yards out. Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, tipped the curling shot over the bar, and Mustafa Karshoum sent a header narrowly wide from the resulting corner.
In the closing stages, Ghana created several chances, leaving fans baffled by their failure to score. Inaki Williams fired a shot across the goal from a tight angle in the 85th minute, and Kudus inexplicably failed to convert from close range in the 88th minute after Williams missed Seidu’s cross. Williams had another great opportunity in stoppage time, receiving a pass from Kudus inside the penalty area, but he could not find the net, and Abdul Fatawu blasted the rebound over the bar.
