Ghana’s U20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, has expressed his determination to bring home the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship trophy following the Black Satellites’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday. This win not only secures Ghana’s spot in the tournament final but also guarantees their qualification for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Reflecting on the match, Ofei acknowledged the challenging start against a strong Ivorian side. “Ivory Coast is a good team; they had a plan and made unexpected changes, but in the end, we had to fight,” he shared. “We gave away the goal too easily, but we came back very strong and deserved this win.”
The match began with Loukou Jaures putting Côte d’Ivoire ahead in the 18th minute. However, Ghana levelled the score through an own goal from Jaures. Afriyie, with three goals already in the tournament, later converted a penalty that sealed Ghana’s spot in the final.
Looking forward to the final against Nigeria, who defeated Niger 3-1, Ofei expressed confidence, declaring, “We are bringing the cup home 100%.”
