“Gift Orban Clarifies Praise for Opponent’s Goal, Apologizes to Lyon Fans”

Super Eagles prospect Gift Orban found himself in hot water after he praised a goal and assist by an Auxerre striker in a recent clash with Olympique Lyonnais, unaware it had come at his own team’s expense. Orban had initially commented with a simple “Top” and fire emojis to encourage his friend, the Ivorian striker, who scored and assisted in the 4-goal thriller.

Lyon supporters reacted strongly, prompting Orban to clarify, “Excuse me, OL fans, it was a mistake. I made this comment just to encourage my friend. I didn’t even realise it was from our match; who would wish for his own team to lose? We work hard each day to win matches and trophies. For OL, I am sorry – thank you.”

The season has been difficult for Orban, who has struggled with consistent first-team play and was recently removed from Lyon’s main squad due to disciplinary issues.
