Jordan Ayew Names Michael Essien as the Greatest Ghanaian Player in Premier League History

Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew has named Chelsea legend Michael Essien as the best Ghanaian player to have ever graced the English Premier League. Essien, who joined Chelsea in 2005, quickly became an integral part of the team under manager José Mourinho, contributing to the club’s success, including two Premier League titles in 2005-06 and 2009-10.

In an interview with Showmax, Ayew praised Essien’s achievements, citing his success in both the league and domestic cup competitions, where he won four FA Cups (2007, 2009, 2010, and 2012) and a League Cup (2006-07). Essien’s peak came in 2012 when he helped Chelsea lift the UEFA Champions League, crowning his illustrious career.

Ayew’s opinion is shared by his Leicester City teammate Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who echoed the sentiment: “Essien was a phenomenal player.”

Essien’s contribution to English football is widely recognized, with his leadership and versatility being key factors in Chelsea’s dominance during his time at the club.
