The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. However, four key players—Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, and Ola Aina—are at risk of suspension.
According to CAF regulations, any player who accumulates two yellow cards during the tournament or its qualifiers will face a one-match suspension. Lookman and Bassey were booked in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Benin, while Aina and Chukwueze received yellow cards in the 0-0 draw against Rwanda.
If any of these players receive another caution during the first leg, they will miss the second leg of the double-header against Libya. Despite having a 23-man squad to choose from, coach Augustine Eguavoen will be keen to avoid losing these key players as Nigeria strives to secure three crucial points in their pursuit of AFCON 2025 qualification.
