Malian Striker Fily Traore Accuses TP Mazembe of Kidnapping, Takes Case to FIFA

Malian striker Fily Traore has reported TP Mazembe to FIFA, accusing the Congolese football giants of kidnapping and confiscating his travel documents to prevent his departure. Traore’s claims come after FIFA ruled in his favour in a contract dispute, allowing him to transfer to Libyan side Swehli.

Despite the ruling, TP Mazembe officials allegedly seized his passport, with Traore expressing his frustration in a letter to FIFA, seeking intervention. He recounted how the club summoned him for a match, even though his registration is now with Swehli. He also revealed that armed thugs confiscated his emergency travel documents at the Kinshasa airport.

The Libyan Embassy in DR Congo has filed a formal complaint, urging Mazembe to return Traore’s passport. The striker, formerly Mali U23 international, joined Mazembe from CO Bamako four years ago and was the top scorer in the DR Congo championship last season.
