Morocco Defends Title at AFBC African Boxing Championships, Fending Off Strong Challenge from DR Congo

Morocco successfully defended their title at the AFBC Men’s and Women’s African Boxing Championships on October 26, 2024, despite a formidable challenge from hosts DR Congo. Morocco topped the medal table with 10 gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals. DR Congo followed closely with nine golds, five silvers, and seven bronzes, while Kenya achieved an impressive rise to third place with one gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. Senegal and Cameroon rounded out the top five.

Key highlights include Morocco’s Khadija Mardi and DR Congo’s Pita Kabeji both securing their third consecutive golds, while Senegal’s Karamba Kebe ended the nation’s 26-year gold drought by defeating DR Congo’s Landry Matete. Kenya’s Boniface Mogunde also claimed his first gold, and Namibia’s Tryagain Ndevelo earned gold in his African Championships debut.
