Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita may be considering a career change after facing exclusion from the first team at his current club, Werder Bremen. The 29-year-old left Liverpool when his contract expired in the summer of 2023 and joined the German side on a free transfer. However, he struggled for game time last season, making only five appearances.
In April, Keita was suspended from the first team after an incident where he claimed he refused to travel with the squad for a match against Bayer Leverkusen due to being left out. He later denied these claims through a social media post. Since that public dispute, he has not featured for Werder Bremen, with his only action coming for Guinea during the Olympic Games. However, he has been absent from the national squad for the last four matches.
Recent activity on Keita’s Instagram suggests he may be shifting focus toward off-field roles. Although he has two years left on his contract with Bremen, his chances of playing again for the club appear slim. He has been seen participating in ambassadorial events for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and UNICEF, indicating a potential transition in his career. Just days ago, Keita shared a post from a CAF event, and previous UNICEF posts highlighted his involvement in various initiatives.
In the summer, Keita reportedly underwent a medical with Turkish club Hatayspor but ultimately chose to reject the move, leaving him sidelined until at least January. During his time at Liverpool from 2018 to 2023, he made 129 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists.
