Athletic Bilbao and Spanish-born Ghanaian winger Nico Williams has opened up about the challenges of adapting to his newfound global fame. In an interview with El Mundo, Williams discussed how his life has changed since his rise to stardom, particularly after his performances at the Euros.
“Before the Euros, people in Spain knew me, but now it’s a global thing,” Williams shared, recalling how fans in Italy recognized him during a Europa League match against Roma, eagerly asking for autographs and photos.
Williams admitted that life outside Bilbao has become more overwhelming. Simple activities, like visiting Madrid, are no longer the same: “The last few times I’ve avoided places like Gran Vía because everyone wants photos, and it’s impossible to walk.”
Despite the changes, Williams expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “It’s very nice, and I am enjoying the experience.”
