Nigeria and Spain Advance to FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Quarter-Finals

Nigeria and Spain secured their spots in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after dominant performances, each clinching qualification with one group match remaining.

In Group A, Nigeria stormed to a 4-0 victory over Ecuador, courtesy of a brace from Shakirat Moshood—one from the penalty spot—and goals from Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong.

Their second consecutive win ensures their progress to the next stage. Meanwhile, the host nation Dominican Republic earned their first point after a 1-1 draw with New Zealand. Despite an own goal by Renata Mercedes, Yuleinis Brito quickly restored parity just seven minutes later.

In Group B, Spain’s firepower was on full display as they demolished South Korea 5-0. Pau Comendador, Celia Segure, Iris Santiago, Emma Moreno, and Ainoa Gomez all found the back of the net to guarantee Spain’s quarter-final berth.

The USA also bounced back, securing their first win in the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Colombia, thanks to goals from Micayla Johnson and a Kennedy Fuller penalty.

Upcoming Matches:

9pm (UK time): Japan vs. Brazil, North Korea vs. Kenya

Midnight: England vs. Mexico, Zambia vs. Poland
