Nigeria vs. Libya: AFCON Qualifiers Match Preview, Prediction, Team News, and Lineups

Nigeria will face Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo this Friday evening. The Super Eagles aim to continue their unbeaten run, while Libya is searching for their first victory in the qualifiers.

Match Preview
Nigeria, currently topping Group D with four points, started their qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Benin Republic, followed by a goalless draw against Rwanda. A double-header win over Libya would strengthen their position and bring them closer to securing AFCON qualification. Nigeria has a perfect record against Libya, winning all four of their previous encounters, including two AFCON qualifiers in 2018. Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, now permanently retained, aims to lead Nigeria to the 2025 AFCON after they finished as runners-up in the last edition.

Libya, on the other hand, has struggled in their qualifying campaign. A 1-1 draw against Rwanda and a 2-1 defeat to Benin have left them bottom of the group with one point. Head coach Milutin Sredojevic hopes to break Libya’s 12-year absence from AFCON, but they must turn their fortunes around quickly.

Team News
Nigeria will miss key players Victor Osimhen and Olisah Ndah due to injuries, but they welcome back Chidera Ejuke and Bright-Osayi Samuel. Ademola Lookman is expected to be the key player, especially after his brace against Benin.

Libya will be without Ahmed Al-Tarbi, Mohammed Al-Tabbal, and Ali Yousse due to injuries, with Ahmed Kraouaa leading their attack as they seek their first win in the qualifiers.

Predicted Lineups
Nigeria Possible Starting XI:
Nwabali; Ekong, Ajayi, Bassey; Aina, Ndidi, Onyedika, Onyemaechi; Lookman, Boniface, Chukwueze

Libya Possible Starting XI:
Al Wuhayshi; Elkouri, Yusuf, Erteiba, Al Mabrouk; Al Badri, Al Shreimy; Salama, Al Khoja, Al Gleib, Kraouaa

Prediction
Nigeria, under Eguavoen’s guidance, seems to have found their rhythm and boast a strong lineup. A confident win for the Super Eagles is anticipated against a struggling Libya team.
