Prosper Ikenna Okonkwo claimed a hard-fought victory over fellow Nigerian David Adeleye in the final of the ITF Juniors World Tour J60 tournament in Accra, winning 7-6, 6-4 to secure the boys’ singles title. Okonkwo, the number three seed, avenged his previous loss to Adeleye, who had won the first two titles in the tournament’s J60 series.
After missing Week 1, Okonkwo made a strong return in Week 2, becoming the first player to win both J30 and J60 events during Week 6 of the competition. This year’s tournament has been dominated by Nigerian players, with all three weeks of the J60 series concluding with an all-Nigerian final. Adeleye had earlier defeated Lucky Danjuma and Okonkwo but fell short of a third consecutive title in this decisive match.
Meanwhile, the girls’ singles division saw Zimbabwe’s number one seed, Sasha Natalie Chimedza, capture her first title after defeating number two seed Alisha Ndukwu of Great Britain 6-4, 6-1. Chimedza became the third different winner in as many weeks, following India’s Diya Chaudhary’s wins in the J30 event.
Despite his singles loss, Adeleye partnered with India’s Ori Hillel to claim the boys’ doubles title, avenging their Week 3 defeat against Okonkwo and Joseph Franklin Jimoh. In the girls’ doubles, Sasha Natalie Chimedza and Tunisia’s Lamiss Houas successfully defended their title, beating Ghana’s Sisu Tomegah and Madagascar’s Iriela Rajaobelina 6-3, 6-3.
