Omeruo and Oparanozie Criticize Officiating After Lookman’s Disallowed Goal Against Libya

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo and former international Desire Oparanozie have expressed their frustration with CAF officials for disallowing Ademola Lookman’s goal in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Libya. Lookman thought he had given Nigeria the lead in the 83rd minute with a well-placed shot after a one-two with Samuel Chukwueze, but Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga, aided by assistant Clemence Kanduku, ruled it offside. Oparanozie questioned the decision, stating, “No VAR in Uyo? There’s no dent on Lookman’s goal,” while Omeruo urged CAF to implement VAR for qualifiers, emphasizing that Lookman’s goal should not have been disallowed. Lookman, who has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or, has scored two goals in three AFCON qualifying matches.
