Ghana coach Otto Addo has broken his silence on the emotional toll of the Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Sudan during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
After a difficult run that included a loss to Angola and a draw with Niger, Ghana was eager to bounce back in their doubleheader against Sudan. Unfortunately, they only managed a goalless draw in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a painful 2-0 loss in the return leg, played in Libya.
In an interview with the Ghana FA media, the 45-year-old coach opened up about the mental strain the defeat had on him personally. He described feeling “dead” in the immediate aftermath but credited his family and friends for providing the support he needed to regain focus.
“To be honest, the last two days I felt dead, but I received a lot of positive feedback and support from my family and friends. This is the time I need them the most, and I believe the team needs this as well. It’s what helped bring me back on track,” Addo shared.
The defeat leaves Ghana in a tough position with only two points from four games. As they prepare for their final group matches in November against Angola and Niger, the Black Stars must win both and hope Sudan drops points to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive.
