Shilla Illiasu Criticizes GFA and Government Support for Black Stars Amid Poor Performance

Former Ghana international Shilla Illiasu has expressed disbelief at the extensive support provided to the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the government, noting that it has not translated into positive results for the team. This statement comes in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers held in Libya.

Illiasu, a member of Ghana’s 2006 World Cup squad, stated, “The level of support the GFA and government offer to the Black Stars—unlike other national teams—is astounding, yet we are still struggling to secure victories.” He acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities in the recent goalless draw with Sudan in Accra but expressed his disappointment with the overall performance.

Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, putting the team at risk of missing out on the AFCON for the first time in two decades. The Black Stars will return to the field in November for their final two qualifying matches against Niger and Angola.
