Sudan forward Abobaker Eisa has hailed the influence of Kwesi Appiah since his appointment as head coach of the Falcons of Jediane. Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan delivered an impressive 2-0 victory against Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following a goalless first leg in Accra.
Despite the ongoing civil war in Sudan, Eisa highlighted how the team’s success has uplifted the spirits of the people. “It gives them a lot of joy amidst the chaos,” he told BBC Sport Newsday.
Appiah, who took charge in September 2023, has instilled a new mentality in the squad. Eisa emphasized the coach’s experience and belief in the team’s potential, noting, “He’s changed our mentality into thinking we could beat anyone.”
Sudan, with seven points in the AFCON qualifiers, is on the verge of qualification. Appiah’s achievements could elevate his status in Sudanese football, especially if he guides them to the 2026 World Cup, where they currently lead their qualifying group.
