The Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have taken a hit after a frustrating goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium. Despite dominating the game, Ghana’s inability to convert numerous chances has left them in a precarious position in their qualification campaign. The result leaves Ghana in third place in Group F with just two points, making their path to qualification dependent on winning their remaining three matches, including a crucial second-leg encounter against Sudan in Libya on Monday.
Led by Mohammed Kudus, the Black Stars showed improved hunger and dedication, but Sudanese goalkeeper Abdelrahman Gaafar Ali’s heroic performance kept Ghana from scoring. The game saw Ghana attack relentlessly, particularly down the left side, but they were continuously thwarted by Sudan’s defense and missed opportunities.
The draw has intensified pressure on coach Otto Addo and his team, with Ghana needing to win their next matches to keep their AFCON 2025 hopes alive. Addo assured fans that the Black Stars will secure a victory in the second leg against Sudan to make qualification possible.
Sudan, coached by Ghanaian Kwesi Appiah, celebrated the result, while the Black Stars were left dejected, knowing they must perform at their best to avoid missing out on AFCON qualification.
