Super Eagles Gear Up for Crucial AFCON Qualifier Against Libya

All 23 players called up for Nigeria’s vital CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya have reported to camp, according to Sportblog247.com. Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke arrived at the Super Eagles’ base in Uyo on Wednesday morning, providing a significant boost for caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen ahead of the Friday match.

Although Iheanacho was an unused substitute in Sevilla’s recent 1-0 win over Real Betis, Ejuke played the full 90 minutes. Both players missed the first training session on Tuesday but are expected to participate in Wednesday’s session after recovering from their travels.

Fenerbahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel also missed Tuesday’s training but is anticipated to join the squad as they prepare for the must-win clash against Libya. The Libyan national team, known as the Mediterranean Knights, arrived in Uyo early Wednesday after a lengthy journey from Tripoli via Abuja. Under new head coach Nasser Al-Hadhiri, the Libyans aim to turn around their fortunes following a disappointing start in the qualifiers and are set to train in Uyo before the match.

With four points from their first two matches, the Super Eagles are looking to build on their strong start in the qualifiers. The reverse fixture is scheduled just four days later in Benghazi, Libya. This match is crucial for both teams as they compete for a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
