Troost-Ekong Speaks Out on Super Eagles’ Decision to Boycott Libya Match After Unfair Treatment

Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has announced the team’s decision to boycott their AFCON 2025 qualifier against Libya due to unfair treatment at a Libyan airport. After securing a 1-0 victory in Uyo, Nigeria, the team arrived in Libya only to be held at the airport for over 12 hours. Troost-Ekong revealed their plane was diverted and the team was denied entry to hotels under Libyan government orders.

Expressing his frustration, Troost-Ekong stated that the team would not play the game, citing safety concerns and the unacceptable conditions they faced. The Nigerian captain has called for the intervention of CAF and the Nigerian government.

CAF has yet to release an official statement regarding the situation.
