Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye recently addressed rumours linking him to Inter Milan during the summer transfer window. In an interview with Transfermarkt, the Nigeria international confirmed that he was a top target for the Serie A club as they sought a long-term replacement for veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who is nearing 36.
While Sommer has been a reliable presence since joining from Bayern Munich in 2023, Inter recognized the need for a quality backup. Although Okoye was a strong contender, the club ultimately opted for Josep Martínez from Genoa, paying around €15.5 million for his services. Okoye revealed that discussions between Inter and Udinese were serious, with the Friulians initially demanding €15 million for his transfer.
Despite the failed move, Okoye expressed his happiness at remaining with Udinese. “Surely Inter would have been a dream,” he stated, emphasizing his focus on contributing to Udinese’s success. He downplayed any immediate plans to leave in the upcoming winter transfer window, asserting that his dedication lies with his current club.
