Zimbabwean Rising Stars Mabaya and Nyoni Shine in Liverpool First-Team Training

Isaac Mabaya, a promising Zimbabwean right-back, was recently seen training with Liverpool’s first team for the first time since head coach Arne Slot took over earlier this season. The 20-year-old, who has been a part of Liverpool’s Academy, rejoined the senior squad after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in April. This injury had disrupted his progress, especially since it occurred during his first match back from a long-term ankle injury.

Mabaya’s return to full fitness has allowed him to catch the attention of the new coaching staff, as he aims to solidify his place in the team. He trained alongside fellow Zimbabwean Trey Nyoni, a 17-year-old starlet who has already gained recognition during pre-season with the first team. Nyoni, despite his youth, has made a significant impression under Slot’s guidance, further highlighting the potential of Zimbabwean football talent in Europe.

Several other academy players, including Harvey Davies, James Norris, and Oakley Cannonier, also participated in this week’s senior team training session. The presence of these young talents signals Liverpool’s ongoing commitment to developing their youth system.

For Mabaya and Nyoni, this is a significant step forward in their footballing journey and a testament to the increasing impact of Zimbabwean players in top-tier European clubs.
