The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a heartfelt appeal to the football community and all citizens to uphold peace and civility during the country’s 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 7.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 27, the GFA emphasized the importance of unity and responsible participation in the democratic process. “The Association urges all participants in football and Ghanaians to perform their civic duties in a peaceful manner and wishes all Ghanaians a successful election,” the statement read.
To ensure full participation in the elections, the GFA has announced a temporary pause in all ongoing football competitions. These include the Ghana Premier League, the Access Bank Division One League, and the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. The break will commence after this weekend’s matches, covering fixtures such as the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 and Matchday 6 of the women’s league.
Football action is set to resume on Friday, December 13, following the week-long hiatus. This gesture underscores the GFA’s commitment to fostering national unity during this critical period.
