Dundee’s emerging forward Oluwaseun Adewumi, a 19-year-old Austrian U21 international of Nigerian descent, has been spotlighted in the BBC’s Team of the Week after a thrilling performance in the Scottish Premiership. The young forward’s energy and offensive prowess were crucial in Dundee’s remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over Kilmarnock at Scot Foam Stadium.
Initially trailing by two goals, Dundee’s fortunes shifted as Adewumi’s play ignited a spirited response. In the 34th minute, his shot skimmed past the goal, hitting the side-netting and keeping the pressure on Kilmarnock. Just before the interval, Adewumi delivered a timely assist, allowing Palmer-Houlden to pull one back, marking a turning point in the game.
Adewumi’s vibrant play earned him well-deserved recognition, joining an elite Team of the Week largely dominated by Celtic players after their commanding 6-0 win over Aberdeen to secure a spot in the Scottish League Cup final. Celtic’s representatives in the best XI included Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Nicolas Kuhn, and Daizen Maeda.
Although Adewumi was eventually subbed off shortly after a yellow card, his influence was unmistakable. Following a summer transfer from Floridsdorfer AC in Austria to Burnley, Adewumi was immediately loaned out to Dundee, where he has since recorded one goal and one assist in six appearances, clocking a total of 209 minutes.
With his impact felt early in the Scottish Premiership, Adewumi looks set to be a standout player for Dundee as they aim for greater heights this season.
