AWCON 2025: Black Queens Seeded in Level 2 as Draw Looms

The anticipation for the 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) is building, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prepares to hold the official draw on Friday, November 22, at the prestigious Mohammed VI Complex in Morocco.

The tournament, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, promises to be a spectacle of African women’s football, bringing together the continent’s finest teams for the 13th edition of this prestigious competition.

Team Draw Structure

Ahead of the draw, CAF classified the 12 participating teams into four levels based on the latest FIFA rankings:

Level 1: Morocco (hosts), Nigeria, and South Africa

Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, and Tunisia

Level 3: Mali, Senegal, and Algeria

Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, and Botswana

As the host nation, Morocco will automatically lead Group A. Reigning champions South Africa are set to head Group C, while record winners Nigeria will captain Group B. The remaining teams will be drawn into these groups to complete the lineup.

Ghana’s Black Queens Among Contenders

The Black Queens of Ghana, seeded in Level 2, have their eyes set on making an impact after years of rebuilding their team. Their placement alongside Zambia and Tunisia in Level 2 underscores their steady progress in African women’s football.

AWCON 2025: A Platform for Growth

This year’s tournament is poised to further elevate women’s football in Africa, providing a platform for emerging talents to shine and strengthening the sport’s global appeal. Morocco’s state-of-the-art facilities and vibrant football culture ensure that AWCON 2025 will be a milestone event for the sport.
