Ghana’s U20 coach, Desmond Ofei, has heaped praise on young forward Jerry Afriyie following his standout performance at the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo. Representing Thoughts FC, Afriyie clinched both the Best Player and Top Scorer awards, finishing with five goals in five games, including a crucial goal in Ghana’s final against Nigeria.
Despite Ghana’s narrow loss in the final, Ofei expressed satisfaction with Afriyie’s contribution. “We felt this was our best squad, and we were close to reaching a competitive level,” Ofei noted. “With Jerry, we’re really happy. He’s a humble, goal-hungry lad, and it’s rewarding to see his hard work pay off.”
Afriyie’s consistency was evident, scoring twice in the opener against Benin and finding the net again against Togo in the group stage. His performances helped Ghana qualify for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations, reinforcing his rising reputation in Ghanaian football.
