Black Stars Players Rally Behind Under-Fire Coach Otto Addo Amid AFCON Qualifier Fallout

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has received strong backing from his players despite mounting criticism following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Reports from Sportsblog247.com suggest that the players have expressed unwavering support for Addo, believing in his ability to turn the team’s fortunes around.

Otto Addo, in his second stint as head coach, endured a tough AFCON qualifying campaign, with the Black Stars failing to secure a single win. The team’s three losses and three draws placed them at the bottom of Group F, marking the first time in 20 years that Ghana will miss the prestigious tournament. The last such occurrence was in 2004.

The poor qualification run has sparked public debate about Addo’s future, with many calling for his dismissal. In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has initiated a review of his performance and dissolved the Black Stars management committee, signaling possible changes ahead.

However, reports indicate that a significant portion of the Black Stars squad remains loyal to Addo. The players reportedly hold confidence in his leadership and coaching abilities, citing his experience as a former talent development coach at Borussia Dortmund.

Addo’s second term began in March 2024, following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after a disappointing AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast. Despite the challenges, the team now aims to regroup and focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, resuming in March 2025.

As Ghanaians eagerly await the GFA’s decision, the future of the Black Stars hinges on bold steps to rebuild the team and restore national pride.
