In the lead-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated Georges Gatogato, a distinguished 36-year-old referee from Burundi, to oversee the pivotal clash between Angola and Ghana. Set to take place at Luanda’s Estadio 11 de Novembro on Friday, November 15, 2024, this high-stakes game will kick off at 20:00 local time.
Gatogato, whose journey into officiating has been as unique as it has been impressive, started his career in urban engineering before pivoting to international refereeing. A FIFA-listed referee since 2007, Gatogato brings a wealth of experience to the pitch, having officiated in numerous CAF tournaments including the prestigious CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup. His performance at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt underscored his talent, earning him a reputable place among CAF’s top officials.
Joining Gatogato on the officiating team will be his Burundian colleagues: Rénovat Bizumuremyi as Assistant Referee I, Olivier Nibogora as Assistant Referee II, and Rodrigue Bigirimana serving as the Fourth Official. Additional support includes Match Commissioner Gervasio Domingos Juliao de Jesus Maria from Mozambique and Referee Assessor Victor Miguel de Freitas Gomes from South Africa. Alberto Santana Sessa will manage the broadcast venue.
With both Angola and Ghana aiming to secure their spots in the upcoming AFCON, fans can expect a fiercely contested match under Gatogato’s skilled oversight.
