Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo, a seasoned Premier League player with 82 appearances and three goals to his name, has been overlooked by both Nigeria and England for their upcoming international matches. The 27-year-old center-back, who joined Chelsea from Fulham in the last transfer window, finds himself out of the plans for either nation, despite ongoing interest from Nigeria.
Nigeria’s interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, revealed a 23-man squad as the Super Eagles prepare to face Benin Republic and Rwanda in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. With West Brom’s Semi Ajayi sidelined due to injury, Eguavoen brought in Gabriel Osho from Auxerre and Victor Collins from Nasarawa United to strengthen the defense. The call-up marks potential debuts for both Osho and Collins, who will join regulars like Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and Fulham’s Calvin Bassey.
Meanwhile, England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley, also left Adarabioyo out of the squad for Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. Although Adarabioyo has yet to officially choose between Nigeria and England, his omission from both squads suggests his current lack of playing time at Chelsea may have impacted his international prospects.
Despite this setback, Adarabioyo remains a player of interest for Nigeria, which needs just one point from their final two games to secure an AFCON qualification spot.
