European Clubs Eye Kalmar’s Nigerian Starlet Vince Osuji

Kalmar FF’s relegation from the Swedish Allsvenskan has not overshadowed the emergence of Vince Osuji, an 18-year-old Nigerian center back who has caught the attention of several European clubs. According to Sportbladet, the youngster is on the radar of nine teams, including Belgian giants Anderlecht and Czech side Slavia Prague, as the January transfer window approaches.

Osuji joined Kalmar in May 2024 from Nigerian grassroots club De Cardinal Football Academy. Despite the team’s struggles, he quickly became a standout performer, starting 15 of 18 league games. His first professional goal came in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Malmö in August, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star.

Scouted and invited to trial by Peter Swärdh, Osuji impressed Kalmar’s management enough to earn a long-term contract until 2028. Known for his speed, physical strength, tactical awareness, and passing ability, the defender has drawn comparisons to some of Nigeria’s finest football exports.

Should he move to Anderlecht or Slavia Prague, Osuji will follow in the footsteps of other Nigerian players like Igoh Ogbu, who currently plays for Slavia, and Ishaq Abdulrazak, who is on loan from Anderlecht to Odds Ballklubb.

The January transfer window could mark a pivotal moment in Osuji’s career as he looks to step onto the European stage with a bigger club.
