Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has voiced concern over the Black Stars’ recent performances, attributing their struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers to an individualistic approach among players. Ghana faces the risk of missing the AFCON tournament for the first time in two decades, currently sitting third in their group with just two points from four games. The team needs wins against Angola and Niger in their final two matches, while also hoping for setbacks from Sudan—who need only a point from two games to clinch qualification.
Speaking to Bryt FM, Tagoe noted that Black Stars players tend to play for personal glory rather than as a cohesive unit, highlighting selfishness on the field as a significant issue. “Our players are very selfish because everyone wants to be on the score sheet and make a name,” he said. He further explained that while Ghana boasts strong attacking players, effective teamwork and supportive passes are lacking. Ghana’s fate now depends on a full six-point haul from their remaining fixtures, paired with Sudan’s missteps. The team’s final push begins with an away match against Angola on November 15, followed by a home game against Niger in Accra on November 18, 2024.
