UEFA has sanctioned Dutch football club FC Twente with penalties and fines totaling €83,125 due to racist and discriminatory behavior displayed by fans during a Europa League match against Lazio. According to UEFA’s official website, the incident, which targeted Lazio’s Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and teammate Loum Tchaouna, occurred during Twente’s 2-0 home defeat.

As part of the sanctions, UEFA ordered a partial stadium closure, affecting the Vak-P stand of the De Grolsch Veste stadium, where the offending fans were seated. This section will remain closed for Twente’s next Europa League home game against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on November 28.

In an official statement, FC Twente expressed disappointment over the fans’ behavior, calling it “unacceptable” and “unworthy of the club’s values.” The club promised to identify and penalize those responsible, announcing plans to recover the fine directly from the perpetrators. Additionally, Twente has taken action against individuals responsible for throwing objects on the field, with stadium bans for those involved.

Dele-Bashiru has been a standout performer in the competition, recording an assist in Lazio’s 2-0 win and contributing three goal involvements, including a goal and assist in his debut against Dynamo Kiev.
