Coventry City has parted ways with first-team assistant coach George Boateng following the appointment of Frank Lampard as the club’s new head coach.

Boateng, who joined the Sky Blues at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, departs after a challenging start that sees the team languishing in 17th place in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone.

The club issued a heartfelt statement acknowledging Boateng’s contributions:

“We would all like to thank George for his contribution to the Sky Blues since his return to the Club in the Summer.

“George was a popular figure with the Sky Blues, adding to his 57-game and 7-goal playing spell at the Club during the 90s.

Boateng’s departure adds to the changes brought by Lampard, whose appointment aims to revitalize Coventry’s season. Lampard takes over with hopes of steering the team away from the relegation battle.

Meanwhile, Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, a summer signing from West Bromwich Albion, has shown flashes of promise with three goals in 19 appearances. Asante is expected to play a pivotal role under Lampard’s leadership.

Boateng, a former Ghana technical staff member during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, leaves Coventry with a legacy both as a coach and a former player during the club’s Premier League years.
