GFA Suspends Competitions for One Week Ahead of December 7 Elections

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a one-week suspension of all football competitions to allow players, officials, and fans to participate in the national General Elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

According to the 2024/25 season calendar, the Ghana Premier League, Access Bank Division One League, Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and other competitions will pause after this weekend’s matches. This includes the MTN FA Cup Round of 64, Matchday 6 of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and other scheduled fixtures.

Football activities will resume on Friday, December 13, 2024, with the GFA confirming that this break was pre-planned and incorporated into the season’s fixtures. The association has also reminded clubs, players, and match officials of their responsibilities during this brief hiatus.

The GFA encouraged all stakeholders and the wider Ghanaian public to engage in the electoral process peacefully, expressing hope for a successful election.
