Former Ghanaian international and midfield icon Michael Essien has reached another milestone in his post-playing journey by earning a UEFA certificate in football management. This achievement adds to the credentials he’s been building since retiring from professional play, showcasing his dedication to transitioning into a successful career off the pitch.
Essien, who once dominated midfield for clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid, completed the UEFA program after months of intense study, which involved online courses as well as in-person workshops. Celebrating this accomplishment on social media, he shared, “Finally done with my UEFA certificate in football management journey. Thanks all for the help. I keep learning about the beautiful game. ##UEFACFM.”
Now, Essien is applying his expertise as an individual talent coach for FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga, where he mentors young players, drawing on his extensive experience and tactical knowledge.
Essien’s storied playing career began with SC Bastia in France before he moved to Olympique Lyonnais. His impressive displays there earned him a spot with Chelsea, where he became one of the Premier League’s top players, helping the club to multiple league championships and a Champions League victory. He later went on to play for world-renowned teams like Real Madrid and AC Milan, solidifying his legacy as one of football’s most respected midfielders.
