Historic Rivalry Rekindled: Ghana vs. Nigeria Set for CHAN Qualifiers Showdown

A Tale of Passion and Pride as Two Giants Clash Again

The stage is set for an epic encounter as Ghana’s Black Galaxies and Nigeria’s Super Eagles B prepare to renew their fierce rivalry in the qualifiers for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the officiating teams for the two-legged showdown, adding to the anticipation surrounding this high-stakes clash.

First Leg: Accra Awaits Togolese Referees
The opening leg will take place on December 22, 2024, at the iconic Accra Sports Stadium, with Togolese referee Aklesso Gnama leading a team of officials from his country. Gnama will be assisted by Jonathan Ahonto Koffi, Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou, and fourth official Kossi Fabrice Senyo.

Second Leg: Moroccan Officials Take Charge in Uyo
The decisive return leg is slated for December 28, 2024, at Nigeria’s Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Morocco’s Hamza El Fariq will officiate, supported by assistants Abdessamad Abertoune, Zakaria Bouchtaoui, and fourth official Hicham Temsamani.

A Battle for Redemption and Qualification
This encounter stirs memories of past heartbreaks for Nigeria, who were denied CHAN spots by Ghana in 2009 and 2023. The Super Eagles B are now determined to rewrite history, while the Black Galaxies seek to maintain their dominance.

With the aggregate winner earning a ticket to the CHAN finals scheduled for February 2025 in East Africa, the stakes couldn’t be higher. This tournament, shared by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is also a curtain-raiser for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

As the countdown begins, football fans across Africa eagerly await another thrilling chapter in the storied rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria.
