Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has urged football fans to exercise patience with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo as he works to build a strong team for the future. Despite the national team’s struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Sannie Daara believes the key to success lies in continuity and time for the coach to implement his plans.
The Black Stars are currently in a precarious position in Group F, sitting 3rd with just two points after four matches. With their final qualifying matches against Angola and Niger coming up later this month, there is mounting pressure on the team to deliver. However, Sannie Daara suggests that the frequent changes in the team’s management have played a significant role in the current slump.
He pointed out that the team had a bright moment in the past, recalling their World Cup qualification victory against Nigeria with a young squad. Despite the initial excitement, sustaining that momentum has been difficult due to instability in coaching changes, which he believes has undermined the team’s confidence.
“The Black Stars defeated Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup with a very young team, and the momentum should have continued despite the World Cup exit. However, we failed to sustain that momentum,” Sannie Daara shared in an interview with Asempa FM. “I believe the frequent changes of coaches have not helped the team, and it has affected the confidence of the players.”
As Otto Addo and his coaching staff focus on building a new generation of players, Sannie Daara encourages patience from fans, noting that a fresh team needs time to gel and succeed.
The Black Stars will next face Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, followed by a home match against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later. The road to AFCON qualification is tough, but with support and patience, Sannie Daara believes the team can regain its form and confidence under Otto Addo’s guidance.
