In a candid interview with 3Sports, Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has thrown his hat into the ring as a potential candidate to lead Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
Osei-Fosu, who has been working under the mentorship of former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, played a pivotal role in Sudan’s successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Sudan, alongside Angola, emerged from Group F, leaving Ghana shockingly in third place with just three points after six matches.
Reflecting on his journey and readiness for the Black Stars’ hot seat, Osei-Fosu credited his growth to Appiah’s mentorship but expressed confidence in his tactical abilities.
“I think I need to learn more from Kwesi Appiah. But if he says, ‘Ignatius, you’ve been with me for one year now, and the Black Stars are calling you, I think you’re ready,’ I will take the job because tactically, I am capable of handling the Black Stars,” Osei-Fosu declared.
Despite Ghana’s disappointing AFCON campaign under Otto Addo, who is reportedly set to remain as head coach, Osei-Fosu’s readiness to step up adds another layer to the ongoing discourse about the future of the Black Stars’ technical team.
As the nation reflects on its footballing future, Osei-Fosu’s ambition underscores the need for a fresh perspective to restore Ghana’s lost footballing glory.
