Jennifer Echegini Shines Bright as PSG Thrash Dijon in Seven-Goal Thriller

Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini finally made her mark in the French Première Ligue with a stellar performance, netting a brace and providing an assist in PSG’s dominant 6-1 victory over Dijon on Saturday.

After joining PSG from Juventus, where she earned the Italian division’s Best Young Player award with 10 goals in 14 appearances, Echegini faced challenges replicating her scoring form in France. Her only prior goal for PSG came during a friendly against Manchester City in September.

But all doubts were erased at the Training Center Paris Saint Germain Terrain 5. Echegini opened the scoring in the 10th minute before doubling her tally in the 36th minute to give PSG a commanding 3-0 lead. Shortly before halftime, she capped off her incredible first-half performance with a clever assist for Manssita Traoré’s goal, marking her best outing yet in Paris.

PSG continued their dominance in the second half, with Sakina Karchaoui and Brennskag-Dorsin adding to the tally. Dijon managed a consolation through Kate Taylor, but it was Echegini’s brilliance that stole the show.

Meanwhile, at the Stade Salif Keita, another Super Falcons star, Ifeoma Onumonu, extended her red-hot form for Montpellier HSC. Onumonu scored her fifth league goal in four matches, sealing a 2-0 victory over Saint-Étienne. Lola Gstalter had opened the scoring for Montpellier in the second minute, with Onumonu’s strike just before halftime ensuring the win.

Both Echegini and Onumonu’s exploits highlight the growing influence of Nigerian stars in European football.
